Why Check Devices
Every device on a technician's bench carries risks - from warranty to legal
Warranty - don't take the job
If the device is still under Apple warranty, repair should be done by an authorized SC. Opening the case voids coverage, and the client will blame you. Check Why Check before starting work.
Find My - locked device
A device with Find My enabled will require Apple ID password after reset. If the client isn't the owner, you'll be left with a brick. Check What Checks on intake.
Repair History - understand context
GSX report shows what's already been done: which parts were replaced, how many service visits, any full replacements. Helps understand the current problem and estimate repair cost. Details - GSX.
MDM - corporate device
A device with MDM belongs to an organization. After reset, it returns to managed mode. Repair is possible but consider restrictions and coordinate with the profile owner.
Chimaera - don't take the job
Chimaera Device Policy - Apple's internal lock for devices without a valid sale record. Such devices won't activate; repairing them is pointless. Check status before intake - details in What Checks.
What Checks Are Needed
Minimum check set when accepting a device for repair
GSX Report
Warranty, repairs, replacements, activation date, purchase country. Full device history from Apple's internal system.
iCloud / Find My
Activation lock status. If Find My is on, the device is tied to the owner's Apple ID. Won't activate without the password.
Blacklist
Carrier database check - whether the device is reported as lost or stolen.
MDM / DEP
Corporate management profile. Device may be registered in Apple Business Manager and remotely managed.
Carrier Lock
Carrier binding. Affects ability to use with other SIM cards after repair.
Chimaera
Apple's internal lock. Device without valid sale record - stolen from production, warehouse, or store.

What checks should be done when accepting a device?
Minimum: Find My (activation lock), warranty status, and Blacklist. Ideally, a full GSX report covering repair history, replacements, warranty status, and activation date. For suspicious devices, add Chimaera and MDM.
Can devices be checked in bulk?

Why is Chimaera checking important?
